Explore Amoskeag Health’s nutrition and diabetes education services. Our team provides personalized guidance on managing diabetes through diet and lifestyle changes, helping you achieve better health and wellness. NUTRITION & DIABETES EDUCATION Amoskeag Health provides individualized Nutrition consultations offered by a Licensed Dietitian/ Nutritionist (LDN) including nutritional support and guidance for diabetes management, metabolic syndrome, weight loss, and prenatal nutrition (nutrition during pregnancy). We also support prenatal and post-partum lactation support offered by a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Each area of care helps patients identify their unique needs and then create an individualized wellness approach using both diet and lifestyle modifications to support positive nutrition experiences and healthy outcomes. Nutrition We also offer prediabetes and diabetes education and management with a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and a Nutritionist. These healthcare professionals can explain the diagnosis, blood glucose monitoring and targets, causes of high and low blood glucose levels, meal planning, exercise and weight management, medication options, and how to reduce the risk of complications. Discover how the Early Childhood Region 4 in New Hampshire aims to enhance services for children and families, as part of a broader effort to improve early childhood care and education statewide. Initiatives in Greater Manchester and Greater Derry focus on preparing children for academic success, nurturing healthy families, and promoting social-emotional well-being. EARLY CHILDHOOD REGION 4 Supporting Families for Brighter Futures What is Early Childhood Region 4? The purpose of the Regional Early Childhood Structure is to bring together and improve services for kids and families in New Hampshire. It's part of a bigger plan to make early childhood care and education better in the state. The aim is to create a system that prepares children for kindergarten and academic achievement; fosters safe, healthy, and engaged families; and promotes social and emotional health and well-being. The Early Childhood Region 4 is led by the LAUNCH Region 4 Leadership Team who helps support initiatives addressing early childhood in Greater Manchester and Greater Derry. Amoskeag Health and Granite United Way co-lead the LAUNCH Region 4 Leadership Team, with additional participation from several local organizations. Region 4 encompasses Manchester, Derry, and 15 other communities, serving a population of approximately 278,000 people. The LAUNCH Region 4 Leadership Team works closely with both the Manchester LAUNCH and the Greater Derry LAUNCH. These groups consist of advisory committees, collaboratives, and workgroups dedicated to improving early childhood education and support systems. They focus on understanding what the community needs, connecting with partners, and sharing training. Who is the LAUNCH Region 4 Leadership Team? Vision: Young children and their families flourish in a coordinated system of supports and services. What is the vision and mission of the Region 4 Leadership Team? Accessible Early Childhood System: Make sure all families can easily use early childhood services. Engagement and Relationship Building Across Sectors: Make partnerships stronger between the different groups that work with young kids. Communication and Coordination: Share information better between people involved in early childhood services to make things work smoother. Derry Early Learning Collaborative: Third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am via Teams. Manchester LAUNCH Family Wellness Collaborative: First Thursday every other month from 9:00-10:30 am in person or via Teams. Community Wide Pyramid Model Leadership team: Third Thursday every other month from 11-12 via Teams. The Pyramid Model is a guide based on evidence-based practices that helps young children learn social and emotional skills. It works with a program's existing lessons instead of being a separate curriculum. Join Amoskeag Health's Morning Matters 2024, an annual breakfast fundraiser supporting the Dr. Selma Deitch Center for Children & Teens. This year, Dr. Laura Rubin, an expert in child psychology, will speak on youth mental health trends. Learn more about our impactful event, aimed at raising funds to benefit our youngest patients. MORNING MATTERS What is Morning Matters? Morning Matters is our annual breakfast fundraiser benefiting the Dr. Selma Deitch Center for Children & Teens (formerly known as Child Health Services). Each year, we select a new, relevant subject and an engaging speaker in a topic related to children's healthcare with the goal of raising funds that directly benefit our youngest patients. Trends in Youth Mental Health: Risk and Protective Factors Dr. Laura Rubin is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist and 2006 founder of the Portsmouth Neuropsychology Center in Portsmouth, NH. She received her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology at Loyola University of Chicago and her undergraduate psychology degree at the University of Michigan. She has received specialized training in neuropsychology assessment at the University of Chicago, North Shore Hospital, and New York University Medical Center. Dr. Rubin has extensive experience providing neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. She has particular expertise in evaluating individuals with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, learning disorders, and mood/anxiety disorders. Additionally, she provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults and supervises post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Rubin speaks regularly in the community regarding child development, learning and mental health, parenting, and psychotherapeutic treatment at medical centers, universities, elementary schools, and community organizations. She is also a frequent media contributor and also presented “Reframing to Rewire Your Brain ” at TEDxPortsmouth. Dr. Rubin previously served as a former adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire and board member of the Richie McFarland Children’s Center. LEADERSHIP Betsy Burtis, M.Ed. Chief Operating Officer "I work at Amoskeag Health because it gives me an opportunity to positively impact the care provided to the under-resourced communities I care deeply about. Helping a patient directly or assisting to improve an internal process that will make things better for patients and staff makes my day!" Betsy has worked at Amoskeag Health for seven years in a variety of roles. For 30 years, Betsy has been employed in multiple healthcare settings and at each has worked to advance health equity and be an advocate for underserved and underrepresented patients. She has witnessed the evolution of health equity from the early days when it equated to simply providing language interpreters to the current outcomes-driven work that is combined with social justice advocacy to ensure everyone has an equitable opportunity to live healthy lives. In her current position as COO, she has taken on a broader range of responsibilities that include Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder treatment, Amoskeag’s Special Medical Programs which provide health assessments and treatment to children living with medically complex conditions, Community Initiatives, and finally more traditional operations functions like facilities, medical records, interpretation services, scheduling, and the Call Center. With a career spanning senior leadership roles—including Chief Human Resources Officer for the Vermont State Colleges System and HR leadership positions at Brown University, Clinton Community College, and Champlain College—she has driven transformational initiatives in organizational design, talent acquisition, employee relations, cultural competency development, and system-wide process modernization. Sarah is known for guiding complex mergers, implementing equitable job classification and compensation systems, coaching senior leaders, and building innovative HR programs that strengthen engagement and operational effectiveness. LEADERSHIP Kris McCracken, MBA President/Chief Executive Officer Kris has been with Amoskeag Health since 1996, first as a Crisis Outreach Counselor, then as a Client & Family Services Manager, then as the Director of Operations from 2000 to 2013 before becoming President/CEO in 2013. She has an MBA in Health Care Administration from Rivier College and a Bachelor’s in Psychology & Latin American Studies from Mt. Holyoke College and is bilingual in English and Spanish. Her background is in counseling having worked with Domestic Violence, HIV/AIDS, Rape Crisis, and Substance Abuse before moving into working with community health. Over the past decade, Ms. McCracken spearheaded Amoskeag Health’s response to the growing diversity in our community. In 2012, Ms. McCracken was nominated by the NH DHHS as a Public Health Hero recognizing her work in cultural competency and advocacy for minority populations. She is frequently requested as a speaker to provide training on organizational cultural competency and best practices in multilingual access and graduated in 2014 from the Disparities Leadership Program at Mass General Hospital. She was then honored in 2016 with the Outstanding Women in Business Award, and then again in 2020 and 2022 with the NH Top 200 Most Influential Business Leaders award. Back to Leadership
