Each year, we select a new, relevant subject and an engaging speaker in a topic related to children's healthcare with the goal of raising funds that directly benefit our youngest patients. Trends in Youth Mental Health: Risk and Protective Factors Dr. Laura Rubin is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist and 2006 founder of the Portsmouth Neuropsychology Center in Portsmouth, NH. She received her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology at Loyola University of Chicago and her undergraduate psychology degree at the University of Michigan. She has received specialized training in neuropsychology assessment at the University of Chicago, North Shore Hospital, and New York University Medical Center. Dr. Rubin has extensive experience providing neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. She has particular expertise in evaluating individuals with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, learning disorders, and mood/anxiety disorders. Additionally, she provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults and supervises post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Rubin speaks regularly in the community regarding child development, learning and mental health, parenting, and psychotherapeutic treatment at medical centers, universities, elementary schools, and community organizations. She is also a frequent media contributor and also presented “Reframing to Rewire Your Brain ” at TEDxPortsmouth. Dr. Rubin previously served as a former adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire and board member of the Richie McFarland Children’s Center. Our team provides personalized guidance on managing diabetes through diet and lifestyle changes, helping you achieve better health and wellness. NUTRITION & DIABETES EDUCATION Amoskeag Health provides individualized Nutrition consultations offered by a Licensed Dietitian/ Nutritionist (LDN) including nutritional support and guidance for diabetes management, metabolic syndrome, weight loss, and prenatal nutrition (nutrition during pregnancy). We also support prenatal and post-partum lactation support offered by a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Each area of care helps patients identify their unique needs and then create an individualized wellness approach using both diet and lifestyle modifications to support positive nutrition experiences and healthy outcomes. Nutrition We also offer prediabetes and diabetes education and management with a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and a Nutritionist. Learn about the Childhood Response Team (ACERT) at Amoskeag Health. Our team provides specialized support and intervention for children and families facing behavioral and emotional challenges, promoting healthier outcomes and stronger families. ACERT ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES RESPONSE TEAM What is ACERT? The Adverse Childhood Experiences Response Team (ACERT) is a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to addressing the negative effects of childhood trauma. The ACERT model acts as a referral mechanism that connects families and their children to local trauma-informed mental health services and social supports. In Manchester, the ACERT core partnership includes the Police Department, YWCA-NH, and Amoskeag Health who work collaboratively to provide assistance to families, and their children, who have had recent police involvement. This referral program is voluntary and offers connections to a variety of therapies, youth support groups, domestic violence services, athletic enrichment programs, home visiting, and many other child/family-based resources. The ACERT model has been touted as a best-practice secondary health prevention program by former California Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris and has been replicated in multiple other communities across New Hampshire. Our team offers eye exams, vision correction, and treatment for various eye conditions, ensuring the best care for your family’s eye health. FAMILY EYE CARE CENTER Optometry is health care related to your eyes and vision. It's important to have eye exams even if you don't have trouble reading signs or books. In some cases, an eye exam can be lifesaving. Did you know that some health conditions can be visible in your eye and caught by an optometrist (eye doctor)? Illnesses that can be detected during an eye exam include: Glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve) Potential stroke Diabetes High blood pressure Autoimmune diseases Sexually transmitted diseases Some cancers What is Optometry? At Amoskeag Health's Family Eye Care Center, we can see patients of any age. We will evaluate your eye and vision health and may r ecommend glasses. Please call 603-626-9500 to schedule an appointment. Types of Eye Exams Annual Eye exams can be performed on patients of all ages—even infants—to prevent permanent changes in vision. If needed, the patient may be referred to a specialist to provide further evaluation and testing. We can also fit patients for glasses right in our Family Eye Care Center! Annual Eye Exam These exams are for patients who have acute eye issues. These can be made for same-day or scheduled appointments based on conditions such as: infections, sudden changes in vision, or injuries – but not for glasses. Acute Eye Exam As part of a Diabetic Eye exam, you will have medicated eye drops used to widen your pupils.
