Ready, Set, LAUNCH Because it Takes a City to Raise a Baby Home Visiting for All There is no guidebook for bringing home a new baby! Our Ready Set LAUNCH program is for newborns and their families who live in Manchester and give birth at Elliot Hospital. We want to make the first few weeks of caring for newborns a little easier. The Ready Set LAUNCH service is customizable to what YOU need. Newborn Navigators are bilingual Community Health Workers trained to assist families with newborns. They're experts in local resources and can connect you with services like mom's groups, lactation consultants, and childcare scholarships. Your Newborn Navigator can also connect you with free Nutrition and Cooking Classes, support access to SNAP and WIC, or to the local diaper pantry. As parents themselves, they understand how hard the first few months can be and can provide support during those early days at home. About Newborn Navigators Meet a Newborn Navigator Any parent or caregiver of a newborn who resides in Manchester is eligible to receive this FREE, one-time service! You will be introduced to the service at discharge or receive a call from our Newborn Navigator. Our Newborn Navigators will meet you in the hospital and tell you about our service. They will offer to meet you remotely for your visit. Navigators will follow up with you after you leave the hospital and give you a Welcome Baby Bag prior to the visit. How Does Ready, Set LAUNCH Work? Your Newborn Navigator will ask you how your first few weeks have been for you, your child, and your family. Your Navigator will see whether there was anything you wish you had or anything you currently need. Y our Navigator can work with you to make referrals if you'd like them. Your Navigator will determine if you may benefit from, and are eligible for, Enhanced Navigation which provides you with up to five additional home visits to build additional resources and support. Your Navigator will follow up with you after your visit to make sure you and your family are doing well. What Happens During a Home Visit? Since its inception in 2021, the Newborn Navigator has met with 1,433 families at Elliot Hospital, conducted 436 home visits, and referred 482 times to services like Manchester Diaper Pantry, WIC, SNAP, and various food banks. Ninety of these families received services in a language other than English - 80% in Spanish and 20% spread over Dari, French, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese, and others. ORAL HEALTH SUPPORT Dental Programs and Resources Keeping your mouth healthy is an important part of your overall health. While Amoskeag Health offers a pediatric oral health program as part of well-child care, many dental needs are met through community programs across New Hampshire. Our Pediatric Oral Health program is offered at every Well Child Check for children ages 0 to 5. During these visits, our team applies fluoride varnish to help lower the risk of cavities. Research shows it works even for kids who see a dentist regularly. As part of the program, your child will receive two fluoride varnish treatments per year and an age appropriate oral health kit with resources you can use at home to keep their teeth healthy. Children who are at higher risk for cavities may receive varnish more often. Pediatric Oral Health Program NH Smiles Dental Program for Children The NH Smiles Program for Children, offered through the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, provides preventive and basic dental care for children covered by New Hampshire Medicaid. Families can use this program to find a dental home, get routine cleanings, and access treatment that helps keep kids’ teeth healthy as they grow. NH Smiles for Children NH Smiles Dental Program for Adults The NH Smiles Dental Program for Adults helps people 21 and older with New Hampshire Medicaid get basic dental care. DHHS picked Northeast Delta Dental, working with DentaQuest, to run the adult dental benefit. Through this program, adults can get checkups, cleanings, and other routine care. Helping a patient directly or assisting to improve an internal process that will make things better for patients and staff makes my day!" Betsy has worked at Amoskeag Health for seven years in a variety of roles. For 30 years, Betsy has been employed in multiple healthcare settings and at each has worked to advance health equity and be an advocate for underserved and underrepresented patients. She has witnessed the evolution of health equity from the early days when it equated to simply providing language interpreters to the current outcomes-driven work that is combined with social justice advocacy to ensure everyone has an equitable opportunity to live healthy lives. In her current position as COO, she has taken on a broader range of responsibilities that include Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder treatment, Amoskeag’s Special Medical Programs which provide health assessments and treatment to children living with medically complex conditions, Community Initiatives, and finally more traditional operations functions like facilities, medical records, interpretation services, scheduling, and the Call Center. AMOSKEAG HEALTH'S HISTORY Our Pioneer for Children’s Health Dr. Selma Deitch was fondly referred to as "The Matriarch of New Hampshire's Pediatricians." With a medical career spanning over five decades, she dedicated herself to improving the lives of families and their children while advocating for comprehensive, high-quality healthcare for all. Dr. Deitch's journey began with her education at Tufts University Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health. In 1966, she became the director of New Hampshire's Division of Maternal and Child Health, where she tirelessly worked to establish vital preventive health services for disadvantaged children and their families. Her passion and commitment led to the founding of Child Health Services, which later merged to become what we know today as Amoskeag Health. In the early years, Dr. Deitch was on call nearly every weekend. Not only did she make frequent house calls (which were a rarity back then!), but she even took patients out to the movies when their stressed parents needed a break. Dr. Selma Deitch's legacy lives on as Amoskeag Health continues to provide essential healthcare services to nearly 15,000 Manchester residents in her honor. 1980 From 100 Patients to NH Woman of the Year In the early 1980s, Dr. Selma Deitch established Child Health Services (CHS) with 100 patients, offering an innovative model of healthcare that included nutrition, social services, and transportation, alongside medical care. Over the years, CHS expanded to include behavioral and mental health services, a Child Development Clinic, Special Medical Programs, and a Preschool Dental Clinic. Dr. Selma Deitch's exceptional contributions were recognized in 1986 when she was named NH Woman of the Year. 1990 Milestones in Manchester: MCHC's Evolution In 1993, Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC) was founded at 1415 Elm Street as a collaborative effort by Elliot Hospital, Catholic Medical Center, and community partners to provide healthcare for Manchester's residents with limited access to health care . Mariellen Durso became the first Executive Director, with Dr. Geordie Thomson as the first Medical Director. In 1996, Child Health Services moved to 1245 Elm Street. The following year, they partnered with the Minority Health Coalition to improve care, introducing interpreters with country flags. Ed George took over as MCHC's second President/CEO in 1998, the same year "News & Views," a community newsletter, was launched. Additionally, a Teen Health Clinic was established at Child Health Services, and by 1999, MCHC received its first accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, marking a milestone in their commitment to quality healthcare. 2000 Joint Commission Recognition and Technological Advancements In the early 2000s, Manchester's healthcare landscape evolved significantly. Governor Jeanne Shaheen and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals recognized Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC) for its role in Pfizer's "Sharing the Care" program. Dr. Selma Deitch, CHS founder, passed the torch on to Dr. Rob Nordgren when she retired in 2000, and sadly, our beloved founder passed away just four years later. A campaign raised CHS's endowment to $1 million in Dr. Selma Deitch's honor, and the Adolescent Health Program began in 2000 to expand youth services. Dr. Gavin Muir became MCHC's Medical Director in 2001, the same year First Lady Hillary Clinton visited. Then, MCHC introduced a Medicaid enrollment process, initiated bilingual case management in 2002, and achieved recognition from the Joint Commission in 2003. Technological advancements followed, with the establishment of electronic medical records, a visit from U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, and a collaboration with Elliot Hospital introducing on-site lab services. Integrating Mental Health Care for a Brighter Future In 2005, U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona paid a visit to the Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC) as Child Health Services marked its 25th Anniversary. That same year, the "Children's Care Campaign" was launched, successfully raising $1.36 million for clinic renovations and program expansion. In 2006, WMUR covered the inspiring "MCHC Story" on YouTube . By 2008, MCHC relocated to its current location at 145 Hollis Street and implemented a behavioral integration of care model . Also in 2008, Fred Rusczek became the Executive Director and Lisa DiBrigida, MD, the Medical Director at Child Health Services. The Manchester Sustainable Access Project identified a healthcare need on the West Side, leading to the establishment of the West Side Neighborhood Health Center in collaboration with Catholic Medical Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Fast forward to 2010, and Bedford Commons OB-GYN partnered with MCHC for clinical support. Additionally, a Family Literacy Program was developed at CHS, while MCHC introduced online program information and a video facility tour. 2010 From Accreditation to Community Expansion In 2011, MCHC established the Advancement department to increase community awareness and support. The following year, Child Health Services received accreditation as a Patient-Centered Medical Home from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. During the same year, they secured a grant under the Affordable Care Act for the Personal Responsibility Education Program, focusing on reducing teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. In November 2012, Ed George retired as President/CEO after over 14 years of service. In 2013, MCHC expanded to a second location on Tarrytown Road, with Kris McCracken becoming the new President and CEO. Dr. Gavin Muir, Chief Medical Officer, was honored as Family Physician of the Year by the New Hampshire Academy of Family Physicians. The year 2013 also marked MCHC's 20th anniversary and the beginning of LAUNCH (Linking Actions for Unmet Needs in Children's Health) Manchester. In 2014, MCHC united with Child Health Services to expand services to the community and becoming Child Health Services at MCHC, the pediatric practice of the organization. Amoskeag Health: Fusing Compassion & Commitment In 2015, Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC) achieved recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by NCQA, and Dr. Laura Fry was honored as Family Physician of the Year by the New Hampshire Academy of Family Physicians. The same year, MCHC expanded its reach by taking over operations at the West Side Neighborhood Health Center, making it the fourth location in Manchester. In 2017, MCHC received accolades in the New York Times and was awarded the 2017 Health Center Quality Leader award from HRSA. CHS underwent renovations in September 2017, adding new exam rooms and improving the teen clinic's check-in area. In 2018, MCHC celebrated its 25th anniversary and was recognized again with the Health Center Quality Leader Award. Through a partnership with MCPHS University, MCHC opened the Family Eye Care Center to offer on-site optometry services. In the same year, Dr. Lisa DiBrigida was named Pediatrician of the Year by the New Hampshire Pediatric Society. In June 2019, Manchester Community Health Center, Child Health Services, and West Side Neighborhood Healthcare all combined under the name Amoskeag Health to expand services and better serve patients in Greater Manchester. In 2019, Amoskeag Health hosted a congressional delegation press conference to advocate for the Affordable Care Act, and ProHealth opened in October, providing co-located physical and mental health services. 2020 Mental Health Advocacy & Community Collaboration In 2020, Amoskeag Health faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while remaining open to serve those in need. In 2021, Amoskeag Health played a vital role in administering vaccines to populations with limited access to healthcare through dedicated clinics. The following year, NHHS Secretary Xavier Becerra held a roundtable discussion at the Hollis site to streamline and strengthen Mental Health Services. Also in 2022, Amoskeag Health collaborated with the Manchester School District to introduce the state's first school-based health centers at Beech Street and Gossler Park elementary schools , providing convenient access to healthcare services for families during the school year. In 2023, Amoskeag Health continued its commitment to patient care by upgrading their Electronic Medical Record system and launching a new brand-new patient portal in both English and Spanish, enhancing the understanding of medical information for Spanish-speaking patients.

At Amoskeag Health, we understand that being pregnant can impact your mental health just as much as your physical health. Prenatal Care is a group effort that involves initial screenings by a team that includes mental health professionals, nutritionists, and prenatal nurses. Amoskeag Health partners with Dartmouth Health to provide comprehensive prenatal care. Our skilled providers work together to guide and support you throughout your pregnancy, including your care leading up to and during delivery at Elliot Hospital. Pregnancy & Delivery Information Prenatal Care Amoskeag Health offers Gynecologic Care for healthy female reproductive systems including pap smears, breast exams, STD & STI testing/treatment, and pregnancy testing. We can also provide colposcopy (cervical examination) and LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedures) to identify, test, and treat abnormal cell growth in the cervix. Sexual & Reproductive Health Information Gynecology Services Amoskeag Health has a full-time Community Health Worker (CHW) who works with patients that are due to receive preventive cervical and breast cancer screenings. The CHW assists patients who are unsure about being screened or patients who are experiencing barriers to care such as difficulties with transportation, interpretation, or costs of services. Amoskeag Health is also a Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) screening site for the State of NH providing free breast and cervical cancer screening to eligible patients. We have a nurse who assists patients that may be eligible to receive free breast and cervical cancer screenings if they are uninsured. An Amoskeag Health Nurse provides education, support, and assistance to navigate through the program’s options. The cancer screening program is supported by funding from the State of NH’s Department of Health and Human Services BCCP Program and Dartmouth Hitchcock’s NH Colorectal Cancer Screening Program. We offer support to help you access medical appointments and other essential services, ensuring you get the care you need without transportation barriers. TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE Amoskeag Health offers transportation coordination services for qualifying patients. Appointments must be scheduled between Monday-Friday 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Our Transportation Coordinator works with patients to identify transportation options for medical visits when transportation assistance is needed. Who qualifies for this service? Patient lives in Manchester, NH AND has no insurance, insurance that does not cover transportation, or NH Medicaid AND meets at least one of the following: Patient has 3 or more children under the age of 6 Patient is 65 years old or older Patient has one of the following health exceptions: Pregnancy (service offered until post-partum) COPD/Emphysema/Chronis Bronchitis Limited mobility (walker, cane, wheelchair, amputee) Sight impaired Developmentally delayed Severe mental illness Diabetes If you need transportation to your next appointment, please call 603-626-9500 to speak with a Transportation Coordinator.
