WHO SHOULD I CALL?

Non-Life-Threatening Emergencies:
First, Call Amoskeag Health

For urgent and immediate care, first call Amoskeag Health at 603-626-9500. If it is after hours, leave a message with the answering service and a 24-hour on-call doctor will return your call as soon as possible.

Call Amoskeag Health if you have:

  • Cough, sore throat, stuffy nose, or minor fever

  • Minor headache

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation

  • Skin rashes or minor burns

  • Mild asthma

  • Ear or sinus pain, congestion

  • Eye pain or irritation

  • Back or joint pain

  • Bumps, cuts, scrapes, strains

  • Difficulty sleeping or fatigue

  • Burning with urination

  • Possible sexually transmitted disease

  • Medication needs

By calling your Amoskeag Health Provider for medical needs that are non-life-threatening, you will avoid an expensive and unnecessary hospital visit.

Life-Threatening Emergencies:
Call 911 or go to the hospital

Unnecessary hospital visits or calling 911 wastes your time and money. Use the emergency room only in life-threatening situations or disabling conditions.

Call 911 or go to the hospital if you have:

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Possible broken bones

  • Chest pain or pressure

  • Sudden dizziness, weakness or severe headache

  • Sudden or severe pain

  • Severe reaction to an insect bite or medication (especially if having trouble breathing)

  • Bleeding that will not stop

  • Constant vomiting or diarrhea

  • Coughing or vomiting blood

  • Suicidal or homicidal thoughts

  • Loss of consciousness or head trauma

  • High fever or fever with convulsions

  • Poisoning (Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222)

  • Gunshot/stab wound

  • Active labor
